In a french speaking exam you need to know how to speak french
Hey guys I'm super sorry that my posts haven't been that consistent I've just been a little swamped by trying to start my revision for my mocks. On Monday I had my French speaking exam (the one I didn't prepare for) so I wanted to tell you how it went.
Basically that day I was already quite sad that I was back at school but to make it worse I had an exam that I hadn't prepared for, that I couldn't just wing. I was so nervous about it that I was shaking while trying to get in some last minute revision. One of my friends was also doing her exam a little while after mine so we were both panicking and rambling about how nervous we were.
I tried to cram in as much revision as I could until form time ended and it was time to go to maths so I was forced to put my notes away. Maths was soooooooo boring and I didn't understand what Sir was talking about so in a way I was happy to get out of there. My exam started at 9:30 but I left at 9:20 because the place where I was doing it was on the other side of school and also because I was about to slam my head on the table from boredom. I may my way to the exam room and stop outside the room to wait where I could see one of my classmates doing their exam, this kinda put me off because they were doing real well and I wasn't confident that I'd get a good grade. Throughout this time of waiting I was trying to take deep breaths and prepare myself for it as well as making sure that my mouth was hydrated. This may sound weird but in my last speaking exam my mouth was completely dry by the end of it and I didn't want this to happen this time.
Before I knew it my classmate was out of the room and I was walking into it. I took one final glance at my notes before shoving them in my bag .Then my teacher started the recording and silence............................................................................................................................. unbelievably quiet, awkward, unbearable silence.
I literally said one sentence and then I forgot it all, I basically pulled a complete blank and there was just silence in the room for at least 30 seconds. She was trying to prompt me to carry on but I just couldn't remember anything, I wasn't even thinking straight enough to panic as all my brain space was being used to up think of the next sentence.
As this was such an utter train wreck she stopped the tape and allowed me to start from the beginning. The next time was not as bad but still awful as I completely forgot how to pronounce the words and was just focused on actually saying something. Although I wasn't even good at that because I keep having little moments of silence when I tried to remember the next lines.
In the end I got a high B. I don't know how, I don't know why, but I sure as hell don't mind. It must have been a stroke of luck but I did manage to get an alright grade. I could tell Miss was a bit disappointed with me because I'm one of the people she thought would get an A but I didn't. To be honest although I would have liked an A to boost up my grade from my writing exam, I was so happy to get a B because I thought I was going to do so much worse. I was just really relieved that it was over and that I never have to do that again!
Also even up to an hour after I did the exam I could still feel the butterflies in my stomach as if it was a reminder of what a terrible feeling of dread I had before going into the exam. However I felt better when one of my friends told me that she did equally bad as I did which meant that at least I wasn't the only one. On Tuesday we had a French lesson and Miss told us that if we are not happy with our speaking grades then we can do an optional third speaking exam. My response to this was no, HELL NO. I am NOT going through that ever again, so taking French for A level is completely out of the question.
Hope that you liked this tale of french speaking exam woes.
Till Tomorrow x.
