The guide to surviving your GCSEs

Hey guys this is my first post on this blog so I thought I'd let you know a little about me and what's to come.

First of all I just like to say that this isn't my first blog; I've had plenty, too many in fact, all about different topics with different themes but in the end I just ran out of things to say. But I wanted this blog to be different so I spent awhile brainstorming ideas of what to write about. Then it hit me! why not write about your life, (not that anything particularly interesting happens) that's something that will never run out of topics, and there's always something new to share so basically that's how we got here. With me writing a blog called Trainers or Heels about my life, as a navigate my final year of the murky sea that is high (or secondary) school. I invite you guys to come on a journey with me as I grow up and get closer and closer to being an adult and being out in the real world. Hopefully this blog will bring you tears and laughter but most of all, will keep you entertained and help you as you go along on your journey too.

I'd also like to bring to your attention that I will be anonymous and writing under the name Vienna (just because it sounds pretty) for the foreseeable future, as well as the fact that anyone mentioned in my blog will have had their name altered to conceal mine and their identities. As I don't really want an angry mob coming after me with a pitchfork. :D

Anyway you came here for a reason right? to find out how you, can survive your GCSEs. You're probably tired, stressed and anxious to get them over and done with already, but then you realise that it's only October and that you have 7 MORE MONTHS TO GO. This can be quite daunting and you're probably wondering how you are going to get through the next 7 months. Well here's some news for you, I'm in the same boat as you and just last week I was having a mini sad session at the thought of having to wait so long to do them. I too am already looking forward to the summer term even though we only started school awhile ago and willing it to come faster just to put me out of my misery. This all seems fairly depressing but hopefully what I'm about to say next will potentially brighten your day.

Just think about this, year 11 is the last year that you will EVER have to spend a full 6 hour day in lessons, because even if you do go to 6th form (which I am planning on doing) you have a lot of free periods to break up the day. Another thing that worked for me was to think about 6th form, like which one I want to go, all the people I'm not going to miss and the freedom I'm going to have once this is over. I happen to be quite a future thinker which is incredibly useful when you are stuck going through the painfully long experience that is GCSEs. But if the thought of the future and growing up scares you then maybe this one's not for you. Instead why not find out the date that you go on study leave so that you can cross of the days as they happen. To me this is very effective because although the number seems bigger now, tomorrow it will be smaller and this makes it easier to manage.

However for those of you who are SUPER stressed and aren't sure they'll get the grades they want, all I can say is this. "There's nothing you can't do just things you won't do" and also remember that as long as you can reach the next step on your ladder then you're not failure and getting bad grades doesn't mean the end of your life. If none of these other things work for you then just think, while you are sitting there crying in despair over the amounts of homework and revision you have do just remember that millions of other teens just like me are doing the same thing and that you're not alone.

Really there is no guide to surviving GCSEs, you just have to take each day as it comes and just get on with it. I for one, really need to start my revision sometime soon (as my mocks are in December) but the urge to not do it can be really hard to overcome. Oh well! at least I have my teachers to keep giving me speeches over and over again about how important my GCSEs are and how I need to take them seriously etc. to keep me motivated, because we all LOVE these speeches especially when you get them EVERY SINGLE LESSON. I have assembly tomorrow as well so you can definitely wish me luck with that one as sometimes it's hard to take so many powerful words of wisdom so early in the morning.

Till tomorrow x.

P.S Hey guys I hope that you enjoyed my whole advice/rant type of thing. In this blog I will also be telling you the details of my day and keep you informed on my struggles with revision. Leave any comments below if you want some posts specifically about advice (as I am practically an agony aunt to my friends) or if you want more strictly comedic things. Byeee
