The run of torture
My school has some sick tradition of making us do a cross country run every year. This wouldn't be so bad and I can't really complain as some of my friends have to do that every week at their school. But at my school they make us run through farmers fields. Fields, where their are crops growing and horses right next to us. I don't know who's stupid idea this was because the mud is so thick and slippery that it's hard to walk let alone run in the fields. It's particularly disgusting as you get mud all over your legs and clothes and let me tell you dried mud is not a good look.
Today I did the last run that I will ever have to do at my school and I hated every second of it but I'm glad that I did it. The thing was I didn't even know for sure if I had to do it today but nevertheless I was totally bricking it in French this morning before the race. Me and almost everyone else there except the cross country runners were dreading it almost as much as I was. The P.E staff certainly didn't help the situation by telling us to "Man up" and not to be "such wimps".
When the whistle finally went off I was so not prepared and I'm pretty sure when I took my first step I got a stitch. I decided to stay with a couple girls in my year and it was pretty clear at the beginning that we were at the very back. We carried on running, well jogging really for a bit until we got a bit tired and stopped. Throughout the whole thing we did this until we saw the finish line. Usually at this time I use some energy that I've saved up to sprint to the finish but this year I just about managed to jog there without collapsing.
At soon as I went through the finish line I felt a weight come off my shoulders and I also felt really sick but I was proud of myself for at least achieving it. My time was a few seconds later than last year's but I was just soooooo happy that I NEVER EVER have to do that again. I also realised today that I am really unfit especially considering I used to do athletics (I was only a sprinter though not long distance).
The run may have been torture but it was also really funny. Some stupid boys in my year were pushing each other into the puddles of mud and they got it all over themselves. Also in the bit of the run that the girls' don't do there is a lake and two of them decided to go for a swim in it. Needless to say they got in quite a lot of trouble but it certainly did keep a smile on my face while I was running.
Now that this has been put behind me for the rest of my life I can now look forward to youth tonight, it better be good because my body is really aching right now so it should be worth me getting up for. I'll tell you guys what happened tomorrow.
Till Tomorrow x.
